わたしの神さま

好きなモノだけにかこまれて眠る寝室になりました。モノだけでなく、窓や欄間や引き戸も。長い道を歩いたときや中南米の長い旅で、「日本人だから仏教？」とよく聞かれました。わたしは信仰をもっていません。だから、聞かれたら「信じているのは自然です」といつも答えます。そして、わたしの神様はこの鳥たちです。寝室のとてもステキな欄間に置きました。青森の張り子のスズメは、とても好きな画家・猪熊源一郎も部屋に飾っていたことを知って伝えた友だちが、通販でふたつ買ってひとつをわたしに贈ってくれたものです。お返しに、まんなかのタイ製の白い鳥をふたつ買ってひとつをその友だちに贈りました。世界の民芸品を扱う大好きなお店で見つけたケニアのあざやかな鳥と三羽を飾ったその欄間は、わたしにとっては神棚です。いまは白い鳥になって空を飛んでいるであろう友だちに、庭で咲いている白い山茶花を。

Mi dormitorio se ha convertido en un lugar donde duermo rodeada solo de mis cosas favoritas. Y no solo objetos, sino también ventanas,techo y puertas. Cuando caminaba camino largo e viajé largo en Centroamérica y Sudamérica, a menudo me preguntaron: "¿Eres budista porque eres japonés?". No tengo creencias religiosas, así que cuando me preguntan, siempre respondo: "Creo en la naturaleza". Estos pájaros son mis dioses. Los coloqué en un hermoso lugar de mi dormitorio. Una mejor amiga compró dos gorriones de papel maché de Aomori por internet y me regaló uno después de enterarme de que mi pintor favorito, Inokuma Genichiro, también tenía uno colgado en su habitación. A cambio, compré dos del pájaro blanco del centro, hechos en Tailandia, y le regalé uno a mi amiga. Este lugar, decorado con estos tres pájaros y un vibrante pájaro keniano que encontré en una de mis tiendas favoritas de arte popular internacional, es como un altar sintoísta para mí. Le regalé las camelias blancas que florecen en mi jardín a mi amiga, que ahora vuela por el cielo convertido en un pájaro blanco.

My bedroom has become a place where I sleep surrounded only by my favorite things. And not just objects, but also windows, ceiling, and doors. I don't have religious beliefs, so when asked, I always answer, "I believe in nature." These birds are my gods. I placed them in a beautiful spot in my bedroom. An important friend bought two Aomori papier-mâché sparrows at online and gave me one after learning that my favorite painter, Inokuma Genichiro, also had one hanging in his room. In return, I bought two of the white bird in the center, made in Thailand, and gave one to her. This spot, decorated with these three birds and a vibrant Kenyan bird I found in one of my favorite international folk art shops, is like a place to pray for me. I gave the white camellias that bloom in my garden to my friend, who now flies through the sky transformed into a white bird.
